End of the Audax Year

The Audax year now runs from 1 November to 31 October.

It was in January 2022 that I turned 75.

February and March 2022 saw me complete RRtY two and three.

With 58 Audax points, representing 29 200 km rides, I join the other 73 Audax members who have ridden 5,000 or more km in events of at least 200 km.

In March 2022 I did an extra 200km ride as an “insurance” to ensure that I completed the series for RRtY 3. I kept this up, adding a third 200km ride each month from May; it’s going to be tough keeping this going throughout the winter! I’m short on riding speed but OK on planning and determination. At worst, I’m aiming to achieve five RRtYs in 2023.

I certainly don’t compare myself with some of the greats of the Audax world: Stephen Poulton (featured on the cover of the Audax Arrivee magazine) who has ridden 100,000 km or, more locally, Dave Morrison who runs the West London Cycling club; he is in the list of those who have ridden 25,000 km.

Nevertheless, I hope my year end results serve as some sort of reassurance or inspiration for others. I can’t call myself a lifelong cyclist because life got in the way in the 20s, 30s and 40s. Nor am I fast. But I do plan and I am determined. Just bear in mind:

It’s never too late!
