I’d done a number of 200 km rides over the years and had thought of attempting the RRtY. Work – and, let’s be honest, lack of confidence - seemed to get in the way. That’s until I got an email from Dave Morrison who had organised a tough 100km Audax event I had completed a while back. He was sending out an invitation to people who had been on one of his events to take part in a 200km ride from Ruislip in early August 2020. I looked at the route and decided to take part, knowing that if it all seemed too much, there was a bailout point that would leave me riding about 100km which was well within my capabilities. I turned up and rode. I seem to remember Dave putting his hand on my back as we rode up a gentle incline in the last few k but I did it.
